NORTH AVENUE STREETSCAPE PROJECT

Work has begin on the North Avenue on October 1, 2008. The work includes a landscaped median and a streetscape improvement project along North Avenue from Oak Park Avenue to Harlem Avenue.  This is a cooperative project between the City of Chicago and the Village of Oak Park.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE FOR THE NORTH AVE MEDIAN PROJECT PHASE I – HARLEM TO OAK PARK AVE

  • The project is still on schedule to be completed by August 1st. Crews are continuing to pour sidewalk and curb as well as install structural soil for the trees on the north side of North Ave. Crews are working from Newland to Oak Park Ave.
  • The new lights are scheduled for installation this week followed by the removal of the old lights and existing light foundations. All electrical work is tentatively scheduled to be completed by July 3rd.
  • Crews are continuing to install trees both on the north side and in the medians. Approximately 30 trees will be planted in the medians. Tree planting will continue through June 30th.
  • The irrigation system in the medians was damaged in several locations over the winter. Crews will begin working on the repairs this week. To begin the extensive work in the medians as well as to maintain the current schedule on the north side, the inner travel lane (closest to the median) will be closed off periodically between 9-3pm on the south side starting tomorrow, June 26th through July 3rd. One travel lane and parking on the south side will remain at all times.
  • Similar to the south side, crews will be installing 5 bus pads on the north side. To do so, crews will need to close the outer travel lane (closest to the curb) on the north side. This work is tentatively scheduled to start next Monday, June 30th. The outer travel lane will be closed for approximately 4-5 days. One travel lane will remain at all times.
