NORTH AVENUE STREETSCAPE PROJECT
The work began earlier this year on the North Avenue Streetscape
Project is now complete. The work
included a landscaped median and a streetscape improvement
project along North Avenue from Oak Park Avenue to Harlem
Avenue. This is a cooperative project between the City of
Chicago and the Village of Oak Park.
The Village of Oak park and the city of Chicago are in the
process of compiling a punch-list of remaining items for the
area. The list includes items such as clean-up, missing
sod, concrete gaps, etc. and will be finalized in the last week
of August. The crews have 30 days to complete those items.
Work will be taking place through mid-September.
Property owners will be responsible for maintenance of grass in the parkway. The
landscaping crews will be out working on punch list items only.
Property owners should begin maintaining the parkway in their
areas.

| NABA SCHOLARSHIP |
|

The students were joined by their families, OPRF’s college
advisor, Catherine Marshall, 36th Ward Alderman William J.
P. Banks, and Village of Oak Park Board President David
Pope.
The North Avenue Business Association (NABA) is pleased
to announce the presentation of its second scholarship
awards. This year, two recipients were given $500 each.
Joseph Munno and Alvie Bender, both seniors at Oak Park
River Forest High School, received their awards at NABA’s
Annual Meeting held on April 22, 2008, at Sparacino
Ristorante in Chicago. The students were joined by their
families, OPRF’s college advisor, Catherine Marshall, 36th
Ward Alderman William J. P. Banks, and Village of Oak Park
Board President David Pope.

Laurie Freeman, Minuteman Press of Oak Park and out-going
president of NABA, Wendy Tannenbaum, Catherine Marshall, Alvie
Bender & Village of Oak Park Board President David Pope. The North Avenue Business
Association Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors
continuing their education as a business major. Eligible
students must complete an application and essay, and live in
the City of Chicago neighborhoods of Galewood and parts of
Austin or in the Village of Oak Park or River Forest. In its
first year, one scholarship was awarded to a senior from
Steinmetz High School. NABA members’ generous support of the
program was so successful that the organization decided to
award two annual scholarships. At the 2008 Annual Meeting,
36th Ward Alderman William Banks presented a donation to the
Scholarship Fund. “The business association is a
well-established network of business and property owners in
this geographic area,” says Laurie Freeman, Minuteman
Press of Oak Park and out-going president of NABA.
“Creating the scholarship program provides an opportunity
for members to reach beyond business concerns, into the
community at large.” Also at this meeting, Ald. Banks
and President Pope swore in NABA’s new executive committee
and board of directors. Approximately 60 people attended the
event, which included a drawing with items donation by North
Avenue businesses.
